Our Firm
OUR HISTORY: Stair Associates Inc. was founded
in Indianapolis, Indiana by architect Ray Stair and engineer Don
Alexander in 1989. Ray and Don’s capabilities included
Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical design and they focused the
practice on Kindergarten through 12th grade educational projects.
In 1992 Randy Stair and Woody Holm joined the firm. Randy brought
a strong background in education, including several years of experience
as a classroom teacher. Woody’s background included his position
as Director of Mechanical Engineering for a major architectural design
firm. Their experience further sharpened our company focus and
added to our capacity for providing innovative solutions.
Reggie Laconi joined Stair Associates Inc. in 1999. As the former
superintendent of South Madison C.S.C., Reggie brings an educator’s
perspective, with a strong emphasis on finance. Architect Martin
Truesdell joined us in 2007, with over 30 years of experience in
architecture and construction. Martin is a member of the U.S.
Green Building Council and has degree in Natural Resources as well as
being a registered architect. An emphasis on sustainable architectural
design enhances our highly efficient and cost effective mechanical
engineering approach.
Stair Associates has completed projects, which range from some of
Indiana’s largest high schools to small and simple remodels. We
have given each project the necessary attention from conceptual design
to final commissioning in order to assure a successful result. Our
designs have proven themselves many times with satisfied administrators,
maintenance staff and occupants, and with operating costs that
consistently rank far below the averages for comparable facilities.
OUR PHILOSOPHY: Stair Associates recognizes that the primary concern of
a school corporation must be the education of their students. Our
Goal is to provide an excellent learning environment, supported by
mechanical and architectural systems, which respond to the needs and
capabilities of each individual owner. We believe that every
building, staff, budget, and educational program is unique. Our Approach
is to work directly with the staff and administration to develop an
understanding of the distinctive character of each school district.
Stair Associates understands that educational goals must be the primary
driver of design decisions, followed closely by budget constraints and
staffing capabilities. Our Experience allows us to draw on our
earlier work to provide multiple solutions to each challenge, which we
share with each user and distill into the best option. Constant
review of new and state of the art systems is critical in enhancing and
augmenting our experience. Our focus is to provide the most simple
to operate, low maintenance, and cost effective approach, which fully
supports each individual user’s educational program. An emphasis
on developing an environmentally responsible solution will be very
important.
OUR MISSION is to provide solutions that support the unique educational
philosophy and needs of each individual school corporation. We
will provide systems, which reduce operating expense and maintenance
requirements, with lower life cycle costs and sound environmental
practices, allowing the school corporation to devote both funds and
personnel appropriately, on the kids.
OUR STAFF: In developing our staff, we have selected individuals who are
experienced and self motivated. Our capable group of employees
allows our principals to remain involved in the project on a personal
level and to maintain close communication with the owner and the rest of
the design team. In addition to our firm’s original capabilities,
our staff gives us the ability to provide services relative to planning,
technology and green design. Our company structure allows us to
address large projects while maintaining our capacity to give our full
attention to smaller work.
